放鸡岛是茂名第一个潜水基地,位于博贺港的东南方,水东港的西南方,距两海港里程相等,从这两个港口乘快艇半个多小时即可到达。海岛四周的海水极为清澈,水深6至12米处能见度8米远,站在岸边,可以清楚地看见远处水底的礁石。据说只有夏威夷的海水能与之媲美。
