The Chinese work Putong Baike Xin Dacidian ( A New Popular Encyclopedia ) was edited by Huang Moxi at the request of Shen Cuifeng, the owner of a research institute Guoxue Fulun She, and was published by China Encyclopedia Publication Corporation in Shanghai in 1911.
1911年由上海中国词典公司出版的《普通百科新大词典》,系由国学扶轮社主人沈粹芬请黄摩西主编而成。

This paper makes a research of the origin and development of fu lun, argues that the source material of the drama cannot be simply regarded as adapted from The Spring and Autumn Annals or Historical Records, b.
“扶轮”原为军事术语,它的原始意义是为乘车的主要乘员担任护卫,引申义是舍身报恩,六朝以后演绎为一个传奇性的故事情节,《赵氏孤儿》杂剧中的相应情节即由此而来。

1.扶翼车轮。 2.相传春秋时晋大夫赵宣子猎于首山，见灵辄饿不能起，食之。后灵辄为晋灵公卫士。一日灵公邀宣子饮，欲害之。宣子知之，中饮而出。灵公遣卫士追杀之。灵辄疾追先至，告宣子登车速走，并倒戈以御公徒，宣子因以得免。事见《左传．宣公二年》﹑《吕氏春秋．报更》。后以"扶轮"为怀恩报效之典。
