研究表明:马克思主义社会学在中国的发展经历了早期社会学基础理论研究,毛泽东对中国社会结构、人民内部矛盾的深刻分析,“社会学需要赶快补课”论以及中国特色社会学研究四个主要阶段,这四个阶段是一脉相承、不断推进的,通过研究,以期对和谐社会建设和中国特色社会学的发展有所贡献。

20世纪30～40年代中国全国性的社会学学术团体。1930年 2 月8日在上海成立。它的前身是"东南社会学会"。1929年底，在许仕廉、孙本文等人倡议下，以原东南社会学会为基础，扩大范围，由国内各大学社会学教授及对社会学有研究兴趣的中外人士共同组成。第一届理事会 9人，正理事由孙本文担任。学社以联络全国社会学者共同研究社会学理论、社会问题及社会行动为宗旨，把探讨社会学理论，研究社会实际问题，举行实地调查和编纂社会学书籍等作为主要任务。从学社成立至1948年止，共举行过 9届年会，分别以人口问题、家庭社会学、社会规划、战后社会建设、中国社会学今后发展应取之途径等作为年会的专题。《社会学刊》为其学术刊物。
中国社会学社在协调全国社会学界的教学与科研活动，诸如培养专门人才、倡导对中国社会各文化区域开展系统的实地调查、译介国外社会学著作和理论、匡订社会学术语等方面做了大量工作，推动了中国社会学的发展。
