由能量为6～100电子伏的次级电子与介质作用形成的离子群团。低于 100电子伏的次级电子在液体或固体中的射程很短，所产生的离子和激发分子离其母体离子很近，这样形成的离子和激发分子与母体离子紧挨在一起而形成刺迹。每个刺迹中平均含2～3个离子对和若干激发分子。刺迹在某处出现的频率与射线的种类和能量有关,也与介质的密度有关，A≥1（A为质量数）的带电粒子的径迹中，刺迹彼此重叠、合并，形成连续的离子圆柱体。
