化学成分为CaTiO3、晶体属正交(斜方)晶系的氧化物矿物。以俄国伯爵П.А.佩罗夫斯基(Перовский)的姓命名。常含钠、铈、铁、铌等。外形常呈假等轴晶系的似立方体或八面体。浅色至棕色,金刚光泽。摩斯硬度5.5,比重4.0。钙钛矿多为基性或碱性火成岩中的副矿物,在与石灰岩的接触带中也有产出。大量富集时可用于提炼钛、稀土元素和铌。俄罗斯的科拉半岛是世界著名的产地。
