支持者级为单艇壳的泪滴形舰身设计,舰身由高张力钢制成,泪滴形舰身可使其拥有较高的潜航速度。舰身宽/长比极高,压力壳直径亦大,如此可使舰内拥有两层广阔的甲板。压力壳内分为三个水密隔舱间,推进机具室与引擎室皆位于后段隔舱,引擎室位于推进机具之前,两者之间由隔音舱隔开。总之,支持者级的所有设计皆结合了当今最精良的科技技术。潜航深度亦十分优异,为200米。
使用高张力钢可增强潜艇的舰身结构,进而使潜航深度增加百分之五十。
支持者级的主要推进系统为两具帕克斯曼维伦塔1600 rpa-200 sz 柴油发动机,这也是此种发动机首次装置于潜艇上。目前舰上所搭载的鱼雷为虎鱼mk 24 mod 2鱼雷,亦可选用较复杂且较快速的剑鱼鱼雷,这两种系统皆可用于攻击水面舰只或潜艇。支持者级的最大耐航天数为49天,并可以3节速度潜航90小时。
