由反录病毒科(Retroviridae)慢病毒亚科 (Lenti-virinae)中的痒疫病毒引起的一种慢性传染病。以感染绵羊为主，偶然也波及山羊。特征是潜伏期长、皮肤发生剧痒、病羊运动失调、终至瘫痪而死。在欧洲、北美流行，大洋洲和印度曾因从英国进口绵羊而传播，中国尚未发现本病。目前尚无特异性的实验室诊断方法，也无预防用疫苗。主要通过对进口种羊加强检疫措施等预防。
