  [一、息苦生],谓菩萨以愿力、自在力,于饥馑世,受大鱼等身,以肉救济一切众生;于疾病世,为大医王,救治众生;于刀兵世,为大力主,以善方便诚信之言,等心救济,息于战诤;于系缚鞭打逼迫之处,为息恼故,生于王家,以正法化邪见众生;于外道奉事天神,造诸恶行之家,亦生彼处,断彼邪见及诸恶行。如是无量生处,悉皆往生,是名息苦生。
  [二、随类生],谓菩萨以愿力、自在力,于种种众生,天龙、鬼神、阿修罗等,及诸外道邪见恶行等类,菩萨悉生其中,为其导首,引令入正,及以善法,广为宣说,是名随类生。
  [三、胜生],谓菩萨示现、受生于寿命色力果报,胜过一切天人,是名胜生。
  [四、增上生],谓菩萨从净心住,乃至最上菩萨住,在所受生而独殊胜于阎浮提,自在受生,乃至大自在究竟地,一切受生处,于中最为奇特,是名增上生。(净心住者,即十地中第七地也。此地菩萨离诸惑业,故名净心。最上菩萨住,即第十法云地也。居九地之上,故名最上。梵语阎浮提,华言胜金洲。大自在究竟地者,即色界天主所住处也。)
  [五、最后生],谓最上菩萨住受生时,求证菩提万行,满足生刹利婆罗门家,得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,作一切佛事,是名最后生。(梵语菩提,华言道。梵语刹利,华言田主,即王种也。梵语婆罗门,华言净行。梵语阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,华言无上正等正觉。)
