不经育秧、移栽，把稻谷直接播种于大田而栽培出的水稻。播种时田面无水层的叫旱直播，有水层的叫水直播。栽培这种水稻，可省去育秧、拔秧和插秧等工序，节省工本和专用秧田，但有一定的技术要求。中国主要在气候寒冷、稻作生长季短、田多人少的东北、西北和华北的有些省份有栽培，南方一些大型农场也有栽培。
