形态特征:
秆高7-11m，径4-8cm，节间短而均匀，长约20cm；新秆节带紫色，密被白粉，基部节间常具淡绿黄色的纵条纹。箨鞘褐绿色或淡黑褐色，初具白粉，密被褐斑；箨耳及鞘口遂毛不发育；箨舌先端拱凸，具短须毛，中上部箨两侧明显下延；箨叶长矛形至带形，反转，皱褶。笋期3月下旬至4月上旬或更早，故谓之早竹。
分布与习性:
江苏、浙江、上海、安徽、福建。湖南、江西有引种。喜温暖湿润气候

园林绿化观赏用。笋味美、产量高、出笋早，亦为优良笋用竹。
