描述MonsteraAdans.龟背竹属，天南星科，约50种，分布于美洲热带地区，我国引入栽培有龟背竹M.deliciosaLiebm.1种，供观赏，见于福建、广东、云南等地，北方则须栽于温室。攀援灌木；叶2列，叶柄具鞘，叶片异向旋转，成熟植株上的通常为长圆形，不等侧，有时具空洞，稀羽状分裂；花序柄由枝顶附近单出或多少形成扇形的合轴；佛焰苞舟状展开，脱落；肉穗花序无梗；花多而密，最下部的花不育，余为两性，无花被，雄蕊4，花丝扁平；子房倒圆锥角柱状，2室，每室有胚珠2；浆果密集，互相粘合。
