表示的是经济主体运行中带有总体性的本质性的特征,因此,它通常具有概括性,高度概括经济中的基本性质;它还具有整体性,描述的对象是某个整体,而非其局部;它也具有联系性,表示内容之间是有机联系的,而不是孤立的。
经济模式常常按生产力和生产关系的一定标志划分,如按社会制度或生产方式划分,可分为资本主义经济模式和社会主义经济模式;按经济调节机制划分,可分为市场经济模式和计划经济模式;按管理方式划分,可分为分权管理模式和集权管理模式;等等。
