中国译制片翻译、导演。原籍浙江定海，生于长沙。从小学习英语,中学时代热爱文艺。1943年开始从事翻译工作，曾根据美国剧作家E.奥尼尔的《榆树下的情欲》改写成中国话剧《田园恨》。后参加苦干剧团。抗战胜利后,曾担任张家口人民广播电台顾问,后在华北人民文工团从事创作。天津市解放，被派去接管电影院的工作。1949年夏调往上海电影制片厂，后任翻译组组长。在他的主持领导下，完成了上影第一部苏联译制片《团的儿子》。1957年，上海电影译制厂成立，他先后任副厂长、厂长，担任译制片的翻译、创作和生产的领导工作。他从1953年翻译第一部波兰电影剧本《萧邦的青年时代》开始,先后翻译了《匹克威克外传》、《偷自行车的人》、《王子复仇记》、《孤星血泪》、《雾都孤儿》、《简爱》等数十部外国电影剧本，导演了《华沙一条街》、《王子复仇记》、 《白痴》、 《白夜》、《恭顺的妓女》（旧译《可尊敬的妓女》）等40多部译制片。在译制实践中，他创造出片断配音法，培养出一批翻译、导演和配音演员，为中国译制片的发展，作出了积极的贡献。曾当选为第4届中国电影家协会理事、第5届中国电影家协会名誉理事。
