性质:真核生物细胞核内的一组含量丰富的染色质非组蛋白。分子中含有25%碱性氨基酸和30%酸性氨基酸,分子量一般小于30 000。由于其在聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳中迁移率高而得名。从不同核酸酶选择性地水解有转录活性的染色质的实验中,发现HMG1和HMG2结合在链节DNA上,而HMG14和HMG17常与核小体核心部分的组蛋白八聚体和DNA结合。认为前者在链节处取代组蛋白亚基H1,后者则作用于核小体的核心颗粒,使之修饰成对DNase I等核酸酶更敏感的转录活性染色质,对基因表达起调控作用。荧光免疫法发现,细胞S期的HMG含量高于丝裂期。HMG14和HMG17还可用作亲和层析配体,分离有转录活性的染色质。
