    形态特征:禾本科蕙苡属一年生或多年生草本植物。秆高1-1.5米。叶条状披针形,宽1.5-3厘米。秋季开花,总状花序成束腋生,小穗单性。雄小穗覆瓦状排列于总状花序上部,自珐琅质呈球形或卵形的总苞中抽出;雌小穗包于卵形硬质的总苞中,成熟时变成珠子状,灰白色或蓝紫色,坚硬而光滑,内有种仁。
    生境分布:生于河边、溪边或阴湿山谷中。广布全球温暖地区,我国南方各省有栽培。
    用途:颖果供食用或酿酒,药用有强壮或利尿的作用。茎叶可造纸。坚硬总苞可做工艺品。
