硬脂酸钡是白色或微黄色粉末，溶于苯、甲苯和其他非极性溶剂，熔点210℃。在有机溶剂中加热溶解后冷却时成胶状物，不溶于水，溶于热的乙醇，在空气中能吸收水分，遇强酸分解为硬脂酸和相应的钡盐。硬脂酸钡有毒，无硫化物污染性。储运中应注意防潮。
用途：硬脂酸钡用作机器的耐高温润滑剂，橡胶制品的耐高温粉模剂，聚氯乙烯等塑料的耐光、耐热稳定剂、润滑剂，在所有碱土金属的硬脂酸盐中，硬脂酸钡长期耐热性最佳。
