分子式C22H23ClN2O8,分子量478.87。又称氯四环素,是一种广谱抗菌素,金黄色结晶。无臭味苦。熔点168~169℃。一般医药上用其盐酸盐。熔点210℃(分解)。微溶于水和乙醇,不溶于乙醚、丙酮和氯仿。见光颜色变深。在空气中和弱酸性溶液中较稳定,在碱性溶液中易分解。对革兰氏阳性和阴性细菌、立克次氏体、大型病毒、螺旋体和某些原虫有强抑制作用。主要治疗对青霉素有抗药性的细菌性感染,象肺炎、葡萄球菌败血症等。也能治疗斑疹伤寒、异型肺炎和阿米巴痢等。供口服。服后呕吐、恶心、腹泻等副作用较大。可由金色链丝菌的发酵液中分离出来。
