概 述
１９４４年末，法国开始研制新型步枪，不久便研制出了ｍａｓ４４式７．５ｍｍ半自动步枪样枪，经多次改进后，于１９４９年确定为法军制式装备，称ｍａｓ４９式。１９５０年装备部队，取代原装备的国产ｍａｓ３６式７．５ｍｍ弹仓式步枪和美国ｍ１式加兰德半自动步枪及ｍ１式卡宾枪。ｍａｓ４９式步枪除被法军使用外，还出口阿尔及利亚和印度等国。
mas49/56式步枪是mas49式步枪的改进型，有７．５ｍｍ和７．６２ｍｍ两种口径，质量小些，枪身短些，于１９５６年改进并投产。ｍａｓ４９／５６式步枪直到ｆａｍａｓ ５．５６ｍｍ步枪研制成功后才停产。该枪曾装备法国军队，后虽被ｆａｍａｓ ５．５６ｍｍ步枪取代，但到８０年代还未全部撤装。早先的法属国家也装备有此枪。
