Based on the process control and requirement of the continuous casting machine(CCM),with the PLC control system,full automatic cntrol of cut-to-length was realized by combining cutting technology of the flames cutter machine with manipulating the imagines to length of steel billet by untouched-mode.

The technology of using image analysis and pattern recognition to implement the non-touching automatic billet cut-to-length is mainly introduced.

5 continuous caster at the Steelworks by heavier interference of flame cutting to infrared non-contact cut-to-length system and not high enough cutting precision,the PLC cut-to-length system was developed,satisfactorily solving the cut-to-length problem.

Application of non-touching cut-to-length system in bloom caster;

The thesis is to simply introduce how to use a pickup-camera to capture imagine,and through manipulating the imagines to measure the length of steel billet by untouched-mode ,and how to use the result to control the cutting device to move automatically ,assuring the small tolerance of cut-to-length.

In order to improve economic benefit,we should control the dimension of the material;improve the ratio of the fixed length and finish.

With development of the industrial control system,programmable logic controller(PLC) is widely used in dividing shear of Baosteel Heavy Plate Mill(HPM),especially in the fields of the main motor control of dividing shear,collection and analysis of PDA data,control of pinch rolls, adjustment control of knife gaps,shearing process control,etc.

This paper primarily discusses the electrical main drive control principle of the dividing shear which is the last shear equipment in the shear line of Baosteel 5 m Heavy Plate Mill.
