This paper analyzes the synthesis of TiB2-TiN composites by SHS in terms of reaction process ratio of raw materials and the velocity of combustion wave,and the effect of each of these factors on the process.

Based on extensive literature review and previous work in the author's group, further and deeper investigation was performed for cathode materials and technology with TiB2 composite coating.

TiB2 and Ti-B-N ultrahard thin films on Si substrates were prepared by ionized de-magnetron sputtering.

Titanium nitride containing higher content of nitrogen has been prepared by self-propagationhigh-temperature synthesis of titanium powder in pressurized nitrogen atmosphere,and the ef-fects of bulk density of reactants,nitrogen pressure and diluent content on the combustion wavevelocity and conversion to titanium nitride were investigated.

By using the vacuum ion plating technique,nitriding,titanium nitride and their complex coatings are plated on AISI D2 steel,and the finite element analysis(FEA)and experiments are employed to investigate their wear resistance.
