环丁砜由丁二烯和二氧化硫反应制得，工业生产过程主要有两步:①由丁二烯和二氧化硫在少量阻聚剂(对苯二酚)存在下合成环丁烯砜,温度100～150℃,压力1.2～3.0MPa,反应时间2～3h。产物经精制除去未反应的丁二烯和二氧化硫，得到一定纯度的环丁烯砜。②在骨架镍催化剂存在下，用异丙醇或水作溶剂，环丁烯砜进行加氢、精制可得成品环丁砜。
