       用粉末冶金的方法製成的﹑具有高摩擦係数和高耐磨性的金属与非金属组成的材料﹐也称烧结摩擦材料。这种材料通常由基体金属(铜﹑铁或其合金)﹑润滑组元(铅﹑石墨﹑二硫化鉬等)﹑摩擦组元(二氧化硅﹑石棉等)3部分组成。其组织特点是﹕具有特殊性能的各种质点均匀地分布在连续的金属基体中。金属基体发挥良好的导热性并承受机械应力﹐均匀分布的质点保证所需的摩擦性能。与传统的石棉树脂或金属摩擦材料相比﹐它的优点是摩擦係数高﹐摩擦係数随温度﹑压力和速度的变化而產生的变化小﹐耐高温﹑抗咬合性好﹐磨损小﹐寿命长等。粉末冶金摩擦材料按基体成分可分为铜基和铁基两大类。铁基的比铜基的有稍高的硬度﹑强度﹑摩擦係数﹐允许承受的工作比压和表面瞬时温度也较高﹔而铜基的比铁基的有较好的导热性﹑耐腐蚀性和小的磨损。为了增加粉末冶金摩擦材料的强度﹐通常将其黏结在钢背上而成为双金属结构。铜基摩擦材料大多用於离合器中﹐尤其在湿式离合器中更显示其独特的优点。铁基摩擦材料多用於制动器中。这两种材料已广泛用於飞机﹑坦克﹑汽车﹑船舶﹑拖拉机﹑工程机械和机床等的离合器或制动器中。
