Eucheuma

   红藻门的一属。植物体肥厚多肉,圆柱状,扁压或扁平,辐射或两侧分枝。分枝上多具有乳头状或疣状突起。囊果球状,突出于体表面。该属约有20种,中国约有5种,为热带性海藻,常见种琼枝,体平卧于生长基质上,表面观多现紫、红或黄绿等色,在夏季藻体的背面往往为黄色,腹部则为紫红色。软骨质,不规则的叉状分枝。枝扁平。枝与枝间常互相附着,形成团块状。生长在潮下带上部的碎珊瑚上。藻体的再生力很强,采摘后残存的基部仍能继续生长,海南岛的琼海海藻养殖场即利用此特性繁殖增产。琼枝可食用,也是卡拉胶工业的原料。
