【性状】
本品长可达60cm，黄绿色或黄白色，较光滑。茎有纵棱，直径约0.2cm, 多有分枝或须根，节稍膨大，节间长3～9cm；质柔软，断面中心有髓。叶互生，多皱缩、 破碎，完整叶片展平后呈卵状披针形或披针形，长3～9cm，宽1～2.5cm；先端尖，全缘， 基部下延成膜质叶鞘，抱茎，叶脉平行。花多脱落，总苞佛焰苞状，心形，两边不相连； 花瓣皱缩，蓝色。气微，味淡。
【鉴别】
本品叶的表面观：非腺毛有两种，均为2 细胞，一种短锥形，长45～60 μm ，壁较厚，基部细胞直径约45μm ，顶端细胞短尖；另一种棒形，基部细胞长45～ 60μm ，壁稍厚，顶端细胞较长，先端钝圆，壁薄，常脱落。草酸钙针晶较多，长至74 μm 。
【炮制】
除去杂质，洗净，切段，晒干。
【性味与归经】
甘、淡，寒。归肺、胃、小肠经。
【功能与主治】
清热解毒，利水消肿。用于风热感冒，高热不退，咽喉肿痛，水 肿尿少，热淋涩痛，痈肿疔毒。
【用法与用量】
15～30g；鲜品60～90g 。外用适量。
【贮藏】
置通风干燥处，防霉。
