| 鸭跖草科 Commelinaceae 单子叶植物纲鸭跖草亚纲的一科。多年生或稀为一年生草本，常具有粘液细胞或粘液道。茎直立或匍匐，节显著。叶互生，具叶鞘。通常为蝎尾状聚伞花序，或花序短缩而花簇生或成头状，或伸长，组成圆锥花序，少单生。花两性，极少单性；萼片3，通常分离；花瓣3，主要为蓝色或白色，通常分离，有的中部连合成筒而两端分离；雄蕊6，全育，或仅2～3枚能育而有3枚退化雄蕊 ，退化雄蕊在本科中是一个颇为重要的特征，其形态和排列位置，在不同的属有很大差异，花丝常有念珠状长毛；子房上位，2～3室，每室有1至数个直生胚珠。果为蒴果，有时不裂而常成为浆果状。约50属700种。主要分布于热带，少数种产于亚热带和温带地区。中国产13属49种，多分布于长江以南各省，尤以西南地区为盛。 该科植物有不少种类供药用，如鸭跖草属的鸭跖草、饭包草等。此外，杜若属、水竹叶属、蓝耳草属、吊竹梅属、紫万年青属的一些种类也供药用。观赏植物有紫竹梅、吊竹梅、紫万年青、紫露草、白花紫露草等，常栽培于庭园或温室。
