植物形态：多年生水生草本。茎细长，丝状，叶有两种，沈水叶线形，长约6厘米；浮水叶椭圆形或披针形，长1.5~3厘米，宽4~10毫米，具平行叶脉，基部钝尖，先端尖锐或钝尖，全缘，两面无毛；托叶细小，分离。花绿色，腋生穗状花序，伸出水面，花被4片，雄蕊4枚，雌蕊4枚，子房上位，各1室。小核果斜广卵形，顶端有喙。 生态分布：产我国南北各地，多生于池沼及水田中。 药用部分：全草人药，夏秋采用。 用途：性味微苦、凉，无毒，能清热消肿；治火眼，利水通淋，消气膨胀，疗黄疸，瘰疬，痔疮，调月经，治红崩白带，避孕，并治小儿螬气腹痛。用量：0.5~1两。
