为茄科植物水茄的根。
【植物形态】
水茄，又名：一面针、小登茄、大金扣、扭茄木、金钮扣、金钮头、金衫扣、天茄子、洋毛辣、刺番茄。 多年生亚灌木状草本，高1～3米。全体被星状柔毛。茎直立，分枝，粗壮，枝和叶柄散生短刺。单叶互生；卵形至矩圆状卵形，长10～20厘米，先端渐尖，基部两侧不对称，全缘或浅裂。聚伞花序顶生或腋生，花序长约4匣米；花白色，长约1厘米；花萼5裂，裂片卵状披针形；花冠5裂，裂片披针形；雄蕊5，着生于花冠喉部，花药长约6毫米；子房2室。浆果球形，直径约1厘米，黄红色，秃净，花期夏、秋。 生于旷野荒芜草地。分布广东、广西、贵州等地。
【采集】
全年可采。洗净，切片，晒干备用。
【性味】
广州部队《常用中草药手册》："淡，微凉，有小毒。"
【功用主治】
活血，散瘀，止痛。治跌打瘀痛，腰肌劳损，咳血，痧症，胃痛，疔疮，痈肿。 ①《广西药植名录》："散血，止痛。治咳血，牙痛，无名肿毒。" ②广州部队《常用中草药手册》："散瘀，消肿，止痛。治跌打瘀痛，腰肌劳损，胃痛。" ③《贵州草药》："清暑，止咳，补虚。治痧症，劳弱虚损，久咳。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，3～5钱。外用：捣敷。
