BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia has handed over the refurbished aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, to the Indian Navy at a ceremony attended by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony.
Originally built during the Soviet era, the 2.3-billion-U.S. dollar Kiev-class warship was due to be retrofitted and delivered in 2012. After a glitch was found in its power plant, Moscow delayed the handover scheduled for last October.
According to Russian news reports, the aircraft carrier is expected to arrive in India next February. It will become India’s second aircraft carrier.
