Two sides discuss resumption of six-party talks
2013-09-03 (Xinhua)   2013-09-03 10:20:38

BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry has confirmed that China’s special representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea last week. The ministry says Wu Dawei went there to discuss a resumption of the six-party talks.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei says Wu’s five-day visit began on August the 26th. He was invited by the DPRK’s First Vice Foreign Minister, Kim Kye-gwan. The two discussed the situation on the Korean peninsula and a possible restart of the long-stalled six-party talks.

The last round of those talks was held nearly five years ago. The DPRK quit the aid-for-denuclearization talks in April 2009 in protest against fresh United Nations sanctions. But it recently expressed its wish to return to the negotiating table.
