Cairo returns to normal after Friday's peaceful protests

BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Tensions remain high in Egypt on the eve of the first court appearance of Muslim Brotherhood supreme guide Mohamed Badie who was arrested as part of a crackdown on supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi.

While a significantly weak wave of protests from the Muslim brotherhood and their supporters in Egypt on Friday, generated a sense of calm, the brotherhood is vowing to continue its rallies, raising fears of a return to violence.

A short and small series of rallies, by the anti coup alliance, quickly faded on Friday.

Cairo woke up at ease.

Sherif Goumaa, Cairo resident, said, "I am not a MB supporter but I liked the protests because it was peaceful, they have the right to protest, I think the next period we will see less blood as security forces are keeping a strong hold on the streets. Things will be calmer."

Mostafa Mostafa, Cairo resident, said, "It is not decent to see such weak protests after what Al Sisi has did to protesters killing them, and they go out in weak protests. They are afraid."

Many hope the state of calm would last. Yet threats of more rallies remain.

Mohamed Mahmoud, Cairo resident, said, "Protests will continue today and tomorrow until our freedom is restored. Now I am afraid talking to you expressing my opinion. It will only get calm if the Army convinced the world that this is not a coup."

Mohamed said, "To me they have always been peaceful protests, I wish things would be calm but at the same time everyone could continue with his democratic demands, we will continue our protests for freedom and against corruption."

The trial of Mohamed Badie, the Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leaders shall begin on Sunday. He will share the same court with Mubarak at the police academy.

Bringing more speculations of violent protests, particularly if their supporters meet. And on August 30th, Anti Coup alliance say they will hold their biggest rally ever.

Despite the calm protests during the week many still believe that tension could rise at any moment because the conflict of interest has not been resolved yet.
