BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 22 people, including 6 children, have been killed in flash flooding near Kabul. The water also left farmland severely damaged.
The floods followed hours of torrential rain and hail on Saturday, with the Shomali Plain just to the north of Kabul particularly badly affected. Police say several people suffered injuries when around a dozen homes were washed away.
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the flood-hit area. Much of Afghanistan is dry for most of the year, but heavy rain is common in the summer. Last week flash floods killed about 75 people in five eastern provinces.
