BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- CIA director nominee John Brennan faced tough questioning about US spy activities, including the use of drones. At a Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday, he explained the role of the CIA and himself on the drone issue.
Brennan told senators that drone strikes against terrorist targets meet “rigorous standards” and that no new legislation is needed to govern them. He defended drone strikes against terrorist targets but insisted that it was better to detain terrorists than kill them. Questions about drones were raised after the leak this week of an unclassified Justice Department paper.
The document outlines the Obama administration’s legal justifications and rules for using armed drones to attack American citizens alleged to be involved in terrorist plots.
