Obama: Deeply saddened by Wisconsin shooting
2012-08-06 (Xinhua)   2012-08-06 11:27:37

BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Police say they believe only one gunman was involved in the Sikh temple shooting in Wisconsin. They also called the shooting an act of "domestic terrorism". Seven people, including the gunman were killed. At least 3 people are in hospital, including a poilce officer.

Bradley Wentlandt, police chief of Greenfield city, said, "The emergency medical personnel, the tactical personnel that have gone through the scene have initially identified what they believe to be four deceased inside of this temple and three deceased outside of the temple--one of whom is the shooter."

US President said on Sunday that he was deeply saddened by the tragic incident. He added that his administration would provide whatever support needed to the officials who are carrying out the investigation. Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards says the suspect shot a police officer multiple times outside the Sikh Temple after he arrived at the scene.

A second officer then exchanged gunfire with the suspect and fatally shot him. Edwards says the officer who was ambushed is expected to survive. The tragedy came just half a month after a shocking mass shooting at a Colorado movie theatre that claimed 12 lives and wounded nearly 60.
