BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- A senior i military official says an upgrade of the country's Arrow Two ballistic missile shield is under way.
The unnamed official told Reuters that the new generation of guided interceptor rockets, radar and technology was being installed in deployed Israeli batteries.
The official said the upgraded shield would have greater accuracy and reach.
The Arrow ballistic missile shield has been operational since 2000. It is designed to blow up incoming missiles at altitudes high enough for non-conventional warheads to disintegrate safely.
Israel is upgrading its ballistic missile shield in a U.S.-backed "race" against , and other regional enemies.
