Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party, visited the Ancestral Temple of the Three Sus in the city of Meishan, Southwest China's Sichuan province on Tuesday.

The temple, which was the former home of literary masters Su Xun (1009-66) and his two sons Su Shi (1037-1101) and Su Zhe (1039-1112), was transformed into a memorial site and garden-like museum. The Three Sus are among eight of China's most famous literary masters.

Praising the preservation of the ancestral home, Ma recited classic poems, including the poetic masterpiece, "Prelude to Water Melody," by famous litterateur Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo.

Despite facing setbacks, Su Dongpo still focused on public welfare as a local official leaving a lasting impression on Ma, who believes such virtues should guide all public servants.

Ma is leading a group of about 20 Taiwan students on a journey to explore the history and culture of Sichuan and will leave for Taiwan on Thursday. The visit follows the group's participation in cross-Strait youth ice and snow activities in Harbin, Heilongjiang province. It's the third time that Ma has visited the mainland.
