National holiday sees surge in travel on Oct 2

On Wednesday, or the second day of the National Day holiday, saw a significant surge in inter-regional passenger traffic, with a total of 283.7 million trips being made, representing a 4.1 percent increase year-on-year and a notable 15 percent rise compared to the same period in 2019, according to the Ministry of Transport.

China's railway network handled 18.24 million passenger trips, marking a 6.9 percent year-on-year and an impressive 25.8 percent surge from the same period in 2019.

Road passenger traffic also saw a substantial increase, totaling 262 million trips, showing a 3.8 percent rise year-on-year and a significant 14.7 percent increase from the same period in 2019.

Non-commercial small passenger vehicle trips on highways and ordinary national and provincial roads reached 226 million, up by 3.5 percent from 2023 and a remarkable 42.9 percent increase from 2019. Commercial passenger transportation on roads reached 35.7 million trips, marking a 5.9 percent increase from 2023 but a notable 49 percent decrease from 2019.

Waterway passenger traffic stood at 1.4 million trips, showing a 24.1 percent increase from 2023 but a 34.7 percent decrease from 2019.

Additionally, air passenger traffic reached 2.3 million trips, indicating an 11.7 percent increase from the same period in 2023 and a 20 percent increase from 2019.
