BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The Brazilian government has confirmed it monitored U.S., Russian, Iranian and Iraqi diplomats and property around a decade ago in Brasilia.
A number of intelligence documents were recently leaked to Brazilian newspaper "Folha de Sain Paulo". The newspaper says the diplomats were followed and photographed as they went between their embassies and official residences.
The daily also reports that Brazil’s intelligence service monitored office space rented by the U.S. embassy in Brasilia, after suspecting it was harbouring spy equipment.
The Brazilian Institutional Security Cabinet says the surveillance was carried out under Brazilian law, and to protect national interests.
Brazil says the person who leaked the information will be prosecuted.
