Pakistani Taliban fighters secretly bury Hakimullah Mehsud

BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Pakistani Taliban fighters have secretly buried their slain leader, Hakimullah Mehsud, after he was killed by a US drone strike.

The militant group has moved quickly to replace him, while vowing a wave of revenge suicide bombings. The Pakistani government has denounced the killing and the US ambassador has been summoned in protest.

Some lawmakers have demanded the blocking of US supply lines into Afghanistan in retaliation. Pakistan’s interior minister says the attack has all but destroyed planned peace talks with the militant group. But the country’s information minister insists the government will not allow the talks to fail.

"The efforts have been ambushed. It was not a fire from the front. It was an ambush, and we see it as an ambush. You have scuttled it on the eve of the day, one day before, 18 hours before, a formal delegation of respected religious leaders was to fly out," said Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan, Pakistani Interior Minister.

"The Americans have always had their own stance on drone attacks and we have our’s. We had the same standpoint before the visit of the Prime Minister to the United States, and today our position is the same. This drone attack has endangered the peace talks. But we will not allow the talks to be killed," said Pervez Rashid, Pakistani Information Minister.
