BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia’s Foreign Ministry says its embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli has been attacked by unknown militants.
Embassy officials say about 60 gunmen, dressed in plain clothes, tried to enter the compound. They later set fire to several buildings and tore off the Russian national flag. One Libyan national was reportedly killed during the attack. The compound was quickly secured by guards and no diplomats were wounded.
It is believed the Russian ambassador to Libya was not inside the embassy during the attack. The reason for the attack is not immediately clear. It does not appear to be directly linked to any militant group.
