BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has visited the upper chamber of the Parliament of Uzbekistan with his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov.

The two leaders were greeted by the Chairman of the Senate IIgizar Sobirov at their arrival on Monday. President Karimov showed President Xi around the senate building, which was inspired by the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi said the two countries were connected a long time ago by the Silk Road and share many cultural similarities.

President Karimov and Chairman Sobirov then briefed Xi on the system of the country’s parliament. Xi responded saying that every country should choose its social system and development path based on its own conditions. The two leaders also vowed their commitment of mutual support and joint development.

Later on Monday, President Xi laid flowers at the Independence and Humanitarian Monument in the capital Tashkent with President Karimov.
