BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- With the looming US strike against Syria now being delayed, US Secretary of State John Kerry has spoken to Syrian Opposition Coalition President Ahmed Assi al-Jarba on Saturday. Kerry sought to underscore the US’ determination to hold the Syrian government accountable for using chemical weapons.
The US House of Representatives will consider a measure on military action against Syria on the week of September 9th. Senior officials of the Obama administration, including Secretary of State John Kerry, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Obama’s National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, are set to consult senators by phone on Saturday afternoon.
Senior government officials say they believe Congress will vote in favour of military strikes against Syria. Officials also say that Obama will discuss US action against Syria with world leaders at the G20 summit in Russia next week.
