BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says evidence indicates that President Bashar al-Assad’s forces were responsible for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Speaking after a meeting of NATO ambassadors in Brussels, Rasmussen said that "any use of such weapons is unacceptable and cannot go unanswered." He also said the military alliance fully supports the ongoing UN weapons investigation in Syria and would keep the situation under "close review".
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, NATO Secretary-General, said, "Information available from a wide variety of sources points to the Syrian regime as responsible for the use of chemical weapons in these attacks. This is a clear breach of long-standing international norms and practice."
"We condemn in the strongest possible terms these outrageous attacks which caused major loss of life. NATO allies expressed their full support to the ongoing United Nations investigation."
