BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Friday’s twin blasts mark the second such attack in just a week.

A week ago Thursday, a car bombing hit the southern suburb of Beirut, killing at least 22 people and injuring more than 200. Analysts say two factors are the Syrian crisis and the emergence of new extremist groups.

The damage has created scenes reminiscent of Lebanon’s devastating civil war between 1975 and 1990. On Wednesday, Army Chief General Jean Kahwaji said his forces were fighting a total war against terrorism. He said the terrorists aim to provoke sectarian strife.

Security measures have been intensified since the Beirut explosion. The General Security agency said security forces arrested three people suspected of preparing a car bomb attack and seized a car loaded with 250 kilograms of explosives. But new terror attacks continue. Experts still say a swift formation of the Cabinet will help ease the difficulty of fighting terrorism.
