BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says China remains strongly opposed to the use of chemical weapons by any side in the Syrian conflict.

Speaking on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said China will back a UN probe into the incident, and that the current situation demonstrates the importance and urgency of advancing a political solution.

China is calling on relevant parties to make joint efforts to start the Geneva 2 peace conference as soon as possible and launch an inclusive political transition process.
