BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Audiences in the capital of South China’s Guangdong province, Guangzhou, are getting a chance to watch the country’s "Prince of Tightrope Walking" pull off some fascinating stunts over the Pearl River.
32-year-old acrobat Adili Wuxor successfully crossed a wire suspended over 100 meters above ground on Saturday. The performance was staged in Guangzhou’s downtown center.
The wire connected the city’s landmark Canton Tower to a sail sculpture in front of the Haixinsha Stadium. Apart from walking, Wuxor also stood on one foot and danced on the wire, which measures just 33 millimeters.
At one point, he was joined by his protege for a joint performance. His student lied across the wire, while Wuxor walked pass him by stepping on his shoulder. Neither acrobat wore a safety harness, and used only balancing poles.
Wuxor is a celebrated acrobat from the Uygur ethnic minority. He comes from a long line of tightrope performers that stretches back over 450 years. He set a record in 2010 after spending 60 days crossing a wire above Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium.
