BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- A scorching heatwave has gripped much of Japan and South Korea, increasing health risks and disrupting electric supplies.
84 regions of Japan have seen temperatures climb over 35 degrees Celsius. Since the end of May, nearly 30,000 people have been hospitalized due to the heat.
Meanwhile in South Korea, the heatwave has led to a spike in electricity demands. By Friday afternoon, power reserves were dangerously low, pushing KEPCO, the country’s largest electric utility, to issue the second power shortage alert in just two months.
