BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Former US spy agency contractor Edward Snowden hopes to be granted papers by Wednesday that will allow him to end his month-long stay in the transit area of a Moscow airport. That’s according to His lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena.
Snowden filed an asylum plea last Tuesday. Kucherena said he has called immigration officials on a daily basis, and that they told him they were about to finalize the procedures. Once the plea is formalized, Snowden will get a paper confirming that his application is being reviewed and he will be allowed to leave the airport with the document.
Kucherena still said that Snowden planned to settle in because he believed it would be unsafe to try to travel to Latin America soon because of Washington’s efforts to get him back on US soil to face espionage charges.
