BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Weeks of heavy rainfall haven’t just brought landslides to the countryside, people living in urban areas have also felt the heavy impact.
In east China’s Fujian province, flooding has forced Xiamen University, which is considered one of the most beautiful campuses in the country, to close its doors to visitors. The university’s grounds looked like they’d been swallowed by an ocean, with water-logged roads nearly unpassable. Similar scenes were also found in cities in neighboring Guangdong province.
The water in Huizhou city even reached up to an adult’s waist, as streets were turned into rivers, and people were forced to tread carefully. In Changsha, the capital of central China’s Hunan province, rainstorms inundated shops, stranded residents, and caused traffic jams. The city’s drainage system proved unable to handle the flood waters, as police officers worked through the night.
