BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhuanet) -- After more than 12 hours, the Florida jury in charge of deciding the fate of George Zimmerman, has interrupted deliberations to ask the court for clarification on the instructions regarding manslaughter.

The question, which was read out, without the jurors present, was the first posed by the jury since late Friday afternoon, when they requested an inventory of evidence. Afterwards lawyers from both sides approached the judge’s bench. Their comments could not be heard.

The latest twist in the case would not have been possible only a few days ago. But on Thursday, Judge Debra Nelson ruled to include manslaughter as an option. Zimmerman is charged with killing unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, who he says he shot in self-defense. The jury must reach a unanimous verdict of second-degree murder, manslaughter or acquittal.
