BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Egypt’s official news agency MENA reports that the interim president has ordered the formation of a judicial committee to investigate killings that took place outside the Republican Guard headquarters in Cairo.
The bloody clashes left at least 51 people dead, most of them alleged by the Muslim Brotherhood to be supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. They accused the security forces of firing on protesters during their evening prayers.
MENA also reported that two policemen were killed and six others injured in the same clashes, while the army said one officer was killed and 40 soldiers wounded.
The presidency called for "self-discipline", and stressed the necessity of prioritizing the national interests and the national security of the state. It also called on all protesters not to attack vital premises and military facilities, saying all sides need to achieve national reconciliation as soon as possible.
